The Mikromedas project is elaborated by electronic musician, mathematician and new media artist Valery Vermeulen. Besides his work for the Mikromedas project Vermeulen is also active as music producer, author and guest professor at Erasmus University College Brussels, and guest lecturer at the mathematics department of the University of Antwerp both in Belgium. In 2001 he obtained a Phd in pure mathematics on algebraic group theory at Ghent University (BE) and in 2013 a masters degree in music production at the Royal Conservatory or Ghent (BE). Between 2001 and 2005 Vermeulen worked at the Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music (IPEM, Ghent University) on a research project focusing on the link between music and emotions. Meanwhile he started writing and recording music in my his production studio. Since 2003 Vermeulen has been working on various interactive multimedia projects. Topics in his work cover a broad range of disciplines including creative evolutionary systems, generative art, algorithmic sound and image generation, affective computing, artificial intelligence, econometrics, sound design, data sonification and music production. Besides his activities as a multimedia artist Vermeulen currently also works as a statistical expert and consultant for over almost 15 years.

Vermeulen's installations and performances have been widely shown in Belgium as well as abroad.
